Here's the original from Homicide: Life on the Street. The Wire was created by the same writer, David Simon and used a lot of the same stories from his original book on the Baltimore Homicide department. Also, the name of the fat sergeant on The Wire, Jay Landsman, is the real name of the detective that Richard Belzer's character of Munch was based on.
