Photocopier engineer company car in England

    Hello,
Just wondering what cars engineers use in England and how much spare parts and consumables you carry on a daily basis.
    cheers

Decent size estates like the Mondeo, Passat, Focus etc seem to be the mainstay. I carry a shedload of gear, enough to fill the boot and back seats of a 7-seater people carrier anyway.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

One of our engineers does have a Mondeo estate, the other has an Alfa 159 estate. The service manager has a Seat Exeo. I am trading in my Ford C-Max for a Fiesta as I am now away from the part of the job that needs a lot of car stock to specific jobs that require an eng. to be tied up for a period of time.

Just posting to translate some things for the Americans. An "estate" is what we call "station wagon". A "people carrier" is a "van". Although not mentioned so far a "saloon" is a "sedan". Of course, most of us should already know that a "bonnet" is the "hood", a "boot" is the "trunk", and a "lorry" is a "truck".
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".

Thanks that's interesting, we also have a slang term Chelsea Tractor that means large people carrier. So called because they are owned by the wealthy and are used for the mother to take one child to school. The size of the vehicle seems to be inversely proportional to the mothers driving skills, ie the bigger the car the worse the driver. I apologize for taking this thread slightly off topic normal conversation can take place below.

I get a Seat leon (FR) but the back seats get some stock piled on them.

Cheers for the info much appreciated. Do most of you guys work direct for manufacturer or for companies who sell and maintain multiple manufacturers products?

I have a car-derived van, two seats up front and a big square box at the back full of copier parts.... purely because I was getting hugely p*ssed off with being taxed for private use of a car that was so full of stock I had never been able to use the back seats since it was delivered.

Tax on private use of a commercial vehicle is a lot less than on a car, not as cheap as it was 10 years ago but significantly cheaper than a car nonetheless.

Problem is.... because I have a van, other engineers now expect me to be some sort of mobile warehouse/parts delivery service on top of my usual work.
