Don't debate that one with a believer - you don't have the time.
I bake pies for the homeless every thanksgiving.
I spent 9 years volunteering to take handicapped kids camping for a week every summer. Kids in wheelchairs and walkers, 24/7, doing everything from helping them with arts and crafts to helping feed and bathe them.
I volunteer my time and, possibly, my life as a firefighter & EMT.
You deserve a Medal - seriously - not being my usual smart-a** self, I think that's really cool, and truly honorable.
So, no, god is not required in order to be 'good' - no matter how you choose to define it. And churches can limit themselves to particular communities when offering aid. As a country, we need something a lot more inclusive. Could it be run more efficiently? Of course. But, if I'm in need, I don't want to have to define whether I'm straight or gay, heretic or believer. Nor should you or anyone else.
Never was arguing any of these points, but since you brought it up I have never seen a true Christian ministry ask for a statement of faith, sexuality, or anything similar before rendering service to the needy. The only time they should ask is when it begins affecting another person - in adoptions for example.

Are there hypocrites out there? You bet - there's hypocritical Christians, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Buddists... and Atheists. Jesus scolded these people either directly or through his teachings on many occasions.
I don't really care if you marry your sis, as long as both are consenting and happy. Christ, with your logic, coloreds and whites shouldn't get married either. Or Jews & Catholics. Or someone from the rich side of the tracks and someone from the shacks.
I don't need any two headed children - there's reasons you shouldn't be able to marry certain people, but none of them are based on what color God painted you or where you went to church, etc.
The gerbil bit is nothing more than a distraction from the topic at hand. But, since you seem to be hung up on perversions, let me tell you about a call...
REALLY DID NOT WANT TO KNOW!
Straight christians are just as fucked up as anyone. And they're not forgiven, they just like to deflect attention.
I'll agree with you on that first part, as will any true Christian. The second part is not up for debate, but I suspect you have seen a lot more hypocrites that actual Christians. I call them "Churchians." They go to church on Sunday and live like hell all week.

There is nothing really to debate; there is no God. You never hear of a "Jesus sighting", but Elvis still turns up a few times a year.

I am curious what you consider "propaganda" though...

        Be it on your head...

        Propaganda:
-Why all the pee pee touchers in the church? So the priests and gays are in the same boat, no marriage for either.
I was raised Catholic. Me and the Catholic church have major issues with eachother. Having said that there are a few fruitloops in priests robes - just like there are a few fruitloops outside the church. It's a big deal because a church (of any denomination) is supposed to be a safe place... holy ground. It's made into a bigger deal by a liberal leaning mainstream media who would like nothing more than to see the church dismantled. It's made into an even bigger deal yet by the Vatican trying to cover it up and play it down. Stupid, but everybody expects the clergy to be perfect. Nobody's perfect, and neither is the church - anything made by man... and yes, I'm saying religion is a construct of mankind, but faith is not.
-Do you really believe the earth is a mere 6000 years old?
I don't know, but the question has always been posed to sound condescending, and therefore isn't really a debate topic, but let's take a look at it anyway.
The 6000 year figure was reached by adding up all the ages and given time frames - so-and-so begat so-and-so when he was 27 and begat so-and-so when they were XYZ... The assumption is that the Bible is a complete history with no gaps, in which case Adam and Eve were created a little over 6k years ago. But what if there are gaps? The world could be a lot older. Tens or hundreds of thousands of years of human existence perhaps? I don't know.

The earth was created in 6 days, but how long is a day to God? If He created the universe then he also created time, who's to say he didn't play around with that for a while?

There are some very respected biblical scholars who have demonstrated how a 6k year world would fit the geologic history better than a 4.5B year world. Things like Noah's flood lining up perfectly with the K-T boundary around the world where the dinosaurs were supposedly killed by a meteor impact, and the flood being perfect to preserve all the fossils found there.

So step 1 is to find common ground for debate. How do you think we got here? I think we can skip over the big bang theory - We kind of agree on it anyway: "In the beginning there was nothing... and then it exploded." = "...and God said let there be light!" Similar but different...

I'm talking about us. Humans. Do you buy in to the pond scum to fish to monkeys to corporate managers and other lower forms of life to technicians?

If Darwin was correct how do you explain homosexual marriage and other dead end behaviors inherent to our species, or any species? How do you explain informational entropy in DNA? The replication paradox in Von Neuman machines?

Start your research now, these are subjects that will come up.

            Re: Gay Marriage

Of course it is the media, not the fact that molestation has been rampant for years and so have the cover ups by the church. Should the media not report the rape of children!? To say that CNN or NBC (these are usually considered left leaning) are trying to close churches is bologna.
I am not completely sold on the big bang theory either. Matter cannot be created or destroyed, only change forms...something cannot come from nothing. Time itself is also a concept of man, just as God is, no real way to prove either. I would also lump faith in here but it does not need to be proven and is slightly different. I have faith that my Panasonic machine will break down before my Sharp machine.

I do believe in evolution, that being said, it is still a theory. And a much stronger argument can be made for evolution as opposed to the stories in the Bible. A Biblical scholar is nothing but a science fiction reader with a degree. I cannot recall God flooding the earth because the dinosaurs were getting too rowdy.
The study of DNA is still in its infancy. Genetic mutation in human DNA is the same with any DNA, whether it be plants, humans, or animals. Why is our DNA over 90% identical to some apes? Did God just get lazy and reuse the same code like a bad programmer?
As to the dead end behavior of our species, look around. We develop weapons to kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people in one fell swoop. We are destroying the very planet we inhabit and you are saying gay marriage is on par with these issues?

Men, in the name of God, have dealt death, destruction, and intolerance for thousands of years and continue to do so to this day.

I can't recall the details, it's been a years since my last re-run. Wasn't it all about transcending and stuff?^^ Still the story arc was great - excluding the last season and the spin-offs maybe.
