    ricoh catalogue explorer

anybody tried it? downloaded it and found out all of my manuals are not compatible so i downloaded another parts manual but on first use its a bit pants. might get used to it but the picture area is too small and I would prefere if you could scroll round and pan in and out using the mouse not the built in functions.

Tried it a few years ago, but I'm not satisfied with the results. Maybe I should get used to the new "3D-drawings", but the old drawings and parts lists work much better.

You better get used to it - Ricoh had stated when it came out that all future machines would be using it because it saves them soooooo much money. They're able to transfer the original CAD drawings directly into CatEx files, and since they don't ever have to try looking up a part with the *&%$#@ thing that must mean the world is all rainbows and ponies. The only saving grace is we bitched enough that they also still issue something like the exploded view of years gone by. I've also seen some of the new machines (production) that have classic parts manuals, so maybe they've given up on this bad idea. (very unusual for Ricoh - the stupider it is, the more management seems to like it)

The truth is all the parts catalogs have done as exploded isometric drawings for years because that is the most efficient way to find a part. Now along comes Ricoh saying this must be better because it's cheaper... idiots.

Their claims that since it comes from the original CAD files it's more accurate are bogus. I've seen parts and even assemblies missing and they've had to issue an updated file.

Let's not forget all the poor techs who have to spend extra time, eyesight, and brain cells finding the right gear, or bracket in the middle of all that mess. The time we waste is valuable, and adds up fast. They quickly lose any possible cost savings on the back end with wasting our time, and that's an ongoing expense...

      End of rant.
