    Site down

That's pretty funny, and it's certainly funnier than the cost of the new server I just signed off on.

hope you found a good hosting company, my sites are with godaddy and are allowed 2 gigs a month bandwidth, i think it was $2000 when I paid for 5 years upfront for domain, hosting, and 100 email boxes on a dedicated server. came out to $33 a month.

Also, I remember whining about the price and they dropped it a little.

I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

Go Daddy is good for one thing, well two things, Hot chicks in commercials and hosting websites that get very little traffic. Are you sure you're on an actual dedicated server and not a VPS (virtual private server)? Go Daddy starts their true dedicated plans at about $99.00 a month and that's before adding the RAID controller, Control Panel software and FTP backup support.

We are moving to our own dedicated server hosted in nice cool data center somewhere in sunny California, lots of processor(s), lots of RAM, lots of drive space, lots of bandwith. The migration will take a few days to complete so I will post a schedule as soon as I can make all the arrangements. When we get stable again I will start turning on some of the software features that we couldn't use in the past.

Jim is correct. GoDaddy SUCKS BIGTIME! They trashed one of my sites last year and it cost me a bundle to get it back. I moved to a new server after it was all fixed. FE!
I have 39 domains registered there though. They come out with deals for renewals every once in a while that I take advantage of. I have other domains registered on my new host.

Agreed, they have good prices and service for registering domains and SSL licences Etc... but if you are looking for hosting for anything other than a starter site you can get better performance elsewhere.

nothing that gets traffic like a forum would, they are all local businesses.

                  Re: Site down

I webmaster a site that has about 100 fairly static pages, and gets between 50k to 100k page hits per month, and that's too big for Go Daddy.

I figure about 5-10k of those hits are search engines indexing my site, and I gotta wonder how much of CTN's hosting bill is consumed by index crawlers.

Lots of them, but we have a limit of how many pages and how fast the search engine crawlers can do what they do. They are a necessary evil because without search engines we wouldn't be here.

Well, I don't have much money, and the (very little) I gave was from my own pocket, but I'll make sure to throw in a couple of bucks as soon as I get the chance. Thanks for the superb job, Aneurysm!
