    NAS scanning

Are any of you guys pushing NAS drives as a scanning solution?

I unexpectedly did a NAS setup recently and found it very cool.

It would be a great feature to sell to server-less offices, or just as a nifty accessory to store network scans.

Seems to work just like SMB.

Are they hard to set-up initially?

    Re: NAS scanning

Wrong post for this, but...with NAS, you need to look at NTLM settings, and with older MFPs (363 etc) you need to install firmware that adds suport for NTLM ver 1 and 2..Other than that, it's basically the same as scanning back to any other type of shared folder. Emujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

NAS setup aren't hard at all. The basics are that you pull it out of the box, install some HDDs (if you bought a diskless enclosure), plug it in and turn it on.

From there, 99% of NAS manufacturers will have some software to install on a PC just so that you can get the initial setup done such as IP address, create a RAID array (if the enclosure supports more than one HDD) and so on.

Just go out and buy one for the office and have a play around with it. I have a NAS in my office, at home and even make sure that all my IT customers have one as well, regardless of the ammount of storage that they may have in their servers.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

I've used this several times, and also used usb hdd's. The only real problem I ran into was a customer upgraded their NAS system to something new. The Ricoh 1060 and 2051 stopped working. It required new frimware from Ricoh to solve this, and at that toime it was beta and very hard to get. Other than that no problems with NAS.

One way to get around the CIFS (SMB) NTLM issue is just to use FTP. No need for a server as the NAS acts as an FTP server and that should be supported on all copier still.
