Just downloaded the preview of 8.1.

I am on the fence with the whole OS in general. It runs very well though. And has some nice background features from server2012 ( like the new task manager ).

My main problem is that it is a bitch to use whilst remoted in to a customers PC whilst using a multi monitor setup. Try hovering in a corner then

While Window 8 does not have a real "Start" button in the lower left corner, if you hover over the corner and right click, all the classic "Start" button items will appear.
I have had some issue as listed above with SMB scanning and print drivers not wanting to install but I will wait a few months before I form a full opinion.

          Very useful in Windows 8...

As I had said, with Windows 8 comes SMB 3.0 protocol, unless there's been a firmware release for the appropriate brand/model, you'll likely still only be supporting SMB 2.0 and that would explain the SMB scanning problem. Not having played around with it at all (still waiting for approval from IT for a new laptop to sport W8), I had no idea there were driver installation problems. Did you try installing as admin? (Yes, that annoying Vista feature has reared its ugly head again).

Well, i also got a machine preloaded with windows 8, hated it.. Its just too much.. And apart, most of my programs and drivers do not work on the windows 8, only useless stuff seem to work..

For now, i think i will be comfortable with Windows 7 & Ubuntu... Those seem to work well for me..
