    GPS Tracking

So we finally got GPS tracking on our work phones.

We're told it's for our safety, so they know where we are, and if we get stuck somewhere out of town and not for tracking what we do. It will also be used to more effectively use us techs. It's a double edged sword.

IMHO, I'm not too keen on it because although there is a safety aspect to it, it will be used to keep a track of our whereabouts. It just doesn't feel right being tracked like that. It feels like we can't be trusted. Not only will our admin staff see where we are, our manager will, and so will top management...

Has anyone else got GPS tracking going?

    Re: GPS Tracking

Place I used to work for got them, they were on our vehicles, our own vehicles, we tried to get them to give us phones with the GPS on them, they did not want to do that, this little thing pluged into your OBDII port on your car, well one guy quit on the spot when they brought them out, I bailed a few months later, couple of other guys had left several months before this happend, and one other tech left about same time I did, his wife got a job in a different city, I hear he went to work doing copier service up where his wife is also...so what do I think of it, I think if you want to thin out your service staff....then by all means get them...if you have a good crew, you dont need them, we heard all the usual BS, better responce times, keep better track of miles, ect, ect....blah blah.....yada yada yada....yepp...real good idea......NOT

Have you ever noticed that a liar, thief , crook , politician , salesman , is so paranoid that they do not trust anyone . This is because they want to get you any way they can ; they perceive any honest person as a threat .
A honest person trusts everyone , ( at least 'til they get hit by a cheater several times ) .

THE GOOD GUYS ALWAYS GET PUNISHED FOR WHAT THE BAD GUYS DO !

STILL !!!! In my most humble opinion ....... Honesty IS the best policy !

I'm glad I don't do field work anymore and have to put up with that kind of garbage .

We're using Google Coordinate. So, we can turn it on and off at will. That's a plus I suppose.

If they want to know which customers I have printer issues with, and where I go to lunch. More power to them. I'm sure that'd be interesting water cooler talk. lol

              Re: GPS Tracking

Our new company vehicles track everything. What time we start our car. How long the car is idling. What rout we take. How fast we are driving. When we turn off the car. Miles driven during business hours vs non-business hours (we only get 200 personal miles per month). I've had this car for a little over a year and so far I've not heard a single thing from management about my driving habits. I have been in my manager's office a few times and seen him viewing other tech's driving habits and bitching up a storm about some guys who take "the long way" to avoid toll roads (they get reimbursed after all) or guys who try to say they are stuck in traffic when clearly he can see they are leaving their homes late and stopping for breakfast along the way.

I do miss the days of not having anyone looking over your shoulders.

Makes it easy for managers now to check up on you. They don't have to get to your first call early and stalk you in the parking lot to make sure you are showing up on time anymore.
