Reading the article with legs also tightly clamped together.

It sadly sounds like it was preventable, a case of "I don't want to have to go to the hospital, this is embarrassing". Doctors reported it was fractured and gangrenous. We can assume what that statement implies, the man hurt himself in the nether regions and opted not to go to the doctors until it was life-or-death serious. A note to my fellow gents, if it involves the jewels, take it to the appropriate source ASAP.

To think if he had gone to the doctors right away he may have been saved... Poor sap.
