    Devastating weekend

In a tragic turn of events, both Lou Reed and Marcia Wallace have passed away this weekend. Lou Reed was best known for his work with Velvet Underground, and Marcia Wallace for her various stints on Hollywood Squares and her role on The Bob Newhart Show, but also a very critical character to The Simpsons in Mrs. Edna Krabappel. Edna was a part of The Simpsons since the second episode of the first season, her character will be retired in honour of her memory along the likes of Bleeding Gums Murphy (Ron Taylor) and Lionel Hutz/Troy Maclure (Phil Hartman).

Two gifted voices that will never be heard again. R.I.P.

*edit* Forgot to include cause of death. Lou Reed died of Liver Disease at the age of 71. Marcia Wallace died of Breast Cancer at the age of 70.

I had heard about Lou Reed. I had not heard about Marcia Wallace.

I had only heard of Marcia this morning, I think her death was not reported until today, though both deaths occurred on Friday.

And all of old people probably remember Marcia on The Matchgame shows in the 70's.

The Simpsons did a small tribute to Marcia on the episode that aired yesterday. Bart's usual blackboard scrawlings were replaced by a single line of "We'll really miss you, Mrs. K", as well as a tribute card at the end of the episode before the credits "Dedicated to the memory of Marcia Wallace" with one last Mrs. Krebappel "Ha!".
