Re: What people do on their phones!!
mobilenations.com had a survey about this last week, I decided to participate in it for S&G. I don't understand why our generation is so attached to social media, and this idea of sexting. I get the communication thing, but there is a limit in my mind. This is the reality unfortunately..Comment

Does it count as sexting if you send the pictures to yourself? Nobody else wanted them. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Stephen HawkingComment

Re: What people do on their phones!!
I'm part of the 9% that doesn't have a smartphone. I hate my cell phone and I only have it because Paypal requires me to have a phone number. I can't have some bozo from Brazil calling me at 3AM with a question in another language no less. We have 3 incoming phone land lines in the house. When I DO go out of the house my wife, has to remind me to take it. I go out to get away from the computer. At most I only go out for an hour or so. I think one day in the future we'll see cell phone use banned in public. I see people on the streets all the time texting away and not paying attention to their surroundings. And don't get me started on texting in cars. That's a whole other story. I hate paying the phone company the $39.00 a month for my dumb phone so theres no way I'm going to pay $70 and up for a smartphone. My wife DOES have an iphone though, but she only bought it after we got our new car and found out she can tell the car to 'call Paul at home' or call her friends or daughters. She loves it and she doesn't have to use the bluetooth headset. She can well afford it as she makes 2.5 times what I make. Plus she has to go to NY every 6-8 weeks to go onsite with her clients. (She's a Unix programmer) She's away now for 2 weeks. I'm bummed. I'll get off my soapbox now.

Re: What people do on their phones!!
I have seen young cyclists texting, well I think it was that, he may have been using sat nav. Either way bloody dangerous. If he was involved in an accident the car driver should be awarded a medal for teaching the dickhead a painful lesson.Comment

Re: What people do on their phones!!
I also read that article about cell phone use on airplanes. I don't think the individual airlines will allow it. They'll have to provide special space to allow people to yak away. All of the feedback on the article was negative too. Nobody was for it.

Re: What people do on their phones!!
Supposedly, the radio signals can mess up and interfere with radio equipment, and other instruments. Myhtbusters tested this, and found that on modern airplane systems, all that stuff is shielded from outside EMF etc, and all tests seemed to indicate that flightmode on wireless devices is nigh pointless.
But... I guess the airlines take the stance of 'why take the chance?'Comment
