Can't be bothered with any of that social media stuff, I don't think anything interesting ever happens in my life worth telling anybody else. I get up, go to work, come home and go to sleep in front of the telly then go to bed, does anybody really want to know about that?

Thanks to the lack of coverage of what was going in in Iraq and what is going on in Afghanistan on the news, I use Facebook mostly to see what the individual units are accomplishing there.

Exactly. Also our allies, like the British, Australian, and the German forces have pages, too, just to name a few that I've seen lately.
And if you are somewhat motivated, there are links to be found for actual civilian news sources from Afghanistan too, in English no less. Good reads if you're interested in what they are actually saying and doing.
Although all this is really boring if all you are looking for is quick drama.

Technology is cool but to go "all-in" definitely costs a bit of your soul.

I'm not that old but I thank god I came to age before social media.

Kids now posting idiotic, offensive opinions or worse, pictures for the world to see are costing themselves serious careers as employees check this stuff.

It's also depressing to see parents with face buried in phone while children just want their eye contact.

But it has good sides too. Diagnosis your medical symptoms in minutes, as said before talk to friends, service members and bypass oppressive governments to spread freedom and religion.

All I can ad to this thread and not repeat too much is this: Take everything in life with a pinch of salt, but always be aware, that these days .... some may know more than you think. Here is "just" an ad, but it is actually very real! ...if you know what I mean. Enjoy!

I'm skeptical about a lot of social media. I was on facebook while a relative had cancer and her daughter would update her condition, saved a lot of phonecalls for her. I disabled it after she recovered. My marriage collapsed due to social media, and obsessive on line behaviour. I value the information at my fingertips with todays' age, but value reality much more. I don't miss being online on weekends one bit. Too many people live their lives with a phone in front of them, they're missing everything and don't even know it.

My wifey is nagging me cause I refuse to use "WhatsApp", "Facebook" and whatever crap there is around. I don't like it because of security and privacy concerns. Am I out of time?
