    F*N Digital Phone companies

I am getting tired of these VOIP A**holes telling people all faxes will work with our system.

Lost 2 accounts because of long distance faxing failures and the customer not believing me with 30 years with faxes and 4 years of phone knowledge.
Getting treated like a red headed step child that is just trying to get out of work.

Time to find a new career.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

We've had issues with VOIP faxing as well... but we can usually patch it together enough to send/receive by changing just a few settings.

Hate to hear the loss of customers.

Had more then a few issues with this after Cisco have muddied the waters. Spend some time dumbing the fax down then stand by for the screams of outrage when we bill the customer.
"Sorry but the fax was working before Cisco got here so its not our problem, why not forward the bill on to Cisco?"
"Oh, and by the way, your all singing all dancing fax that jumped tall buildings in a single bound and caught bullets in its teeth now works at the pace of an arthritic slug."

In my 30 years in this trade and 25 years of fax I have become the Nemesis of the phone company technician. I have also gone to great lengths to make the fax work, or prove the phone company is at fault !!! For the Ricoh faxes I see, I have a canned setup I use. Basically Dumbing down the Fax to accommodate the line. Even going to the place a loaner to prove it's not the Fax card when needed. I like to hit them with the "give me a good clean analog signal at the D mark" and they will take notice that you know something about what your doing. The key is the analog signal, as faxing is sending digital data over an analog carrier line. when they go VOIP they are converting analog transmitted data to a digital signal (sometimes optical) then having to convert it back to analog on the receiving end. That being said I learned a new trick a couple years ago, when I service hOKI Data machines. Had a placement with constant line problems. Phone co said all was well. I Contacted hOki data and they said I needed to use their phone line that came with the unit. The hOki line is a 2 wire phone line, red and green (tip and ring) only. That fixed the issue for the hOKI's........

I don't know a lot about faxes, but I know when I am correct. Had a location with 3 machines in 3 different sections of the building. A co., B co. and C co.
B co. keeps calling and complaining the fax doesn't work. A and B have no issues. They all fax to the same local. B co says theirs don't go through. All are set up the same. They all fax to the same place. I keep showing up and testing, they keep complaining. I insist it's the phone line, they had it checked. So finally one day, I show up and the faxes are failing. I take the Sargent with me to the two other companies, and test theirs, and they work. Then he and I carry his machine out the door and next door to C co. It works fine. We carry it back, and they quit calling. I win again, i love it when it works out that way.
