    Why?

Why did Konica Minolta decide to manufacture a seperate fusing unit for the C554? WHy couldn't it be the same as a C454, or a C654?

What makes the C554 so special?

So that dealers have to stock more parts?

Don't you see? That's what makes the C554 so special! It has it's very own fuser unit that's not like the others. It doesn't conform to peer pressure. All the other machines are all like, "You should totally use the same fuser as us. We'll all be alike and it'll be great dude." But C554 doesn't want to be just like all the other copiers. C554 is it's own machine and it does what it wants! You should be proud of the C554 for living it's dreams and being unique! We could all learn a little from the C554.

Just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
        O.o

          hi all
to me the most logical answer is
if you make lots of diferent items then the pirates of the caribbeans
will have more dificult job to replicate, hence force you to buy the overpriced original
          my 2-cents

To the manufacturer it is a good reason as they can sell a few more parts.

I always wondered too... Special fuser for a special machine? I wonder how the 454 and 554 that seem so similar to 364 and below,(instead of 654 and 754) but require 120v 20amp plug instead of the usual 120v 15amp. Does a 45 or 55PPM copier really require it?

Has to do with the requirements set by the appropriate safety authority (UL, CSA, etc).

I ask this question every time Ricoh releases a new machine. Everything is different and means more crap in your car. They make it more complex just for the sake of it.
