I was out on a call fighting with an Aficio 2045 that was already trying my patience with it's refusal to stop throwing up sc322....
...then the phone rings. It's the sales department, they are trying to deliver an MP7500 to a different department in the hospital and are running into a spot of bother. Namely two flights of very steep stairs and no lift/elevator big enough to take the machine.
I tell them I'd be happy to help, but I've got a machine in pieces right now and can't just drop everything and leave. I tell them to speak to my FSM to actually ok this as it's an unscheduled job that I won't get a "call" for.
....
Twenty minutes later I'm having a little success, I've successfully synced the laser unit and it's copying, the machine is filthy though so there's still work to do. The phone rings again, sales haven't spoke to my manager but are starting to get annoyed that I'm not doing what I'm told.
I ring my manager, his words are to the effect of "If the machine you're on is working then go help but I'm going to go and bollock them for not having the decency to ask me first"
....
I meet the delivery guys and see the task at hand, these stairs were super steep and had a half landing between flights that didn't even look big enough to manouvre the copier around in. I dismantle the copier, I took off the adf, the drum/dev unit, the fusing/exit unit, the duplex unit, the tandem tray and the paper trays purely to make this thing lighter. It then still took the three of us over an hour to gradually get this thing up the stairs. As you can imagine, there was much hilarity to be had as the customer's staff were trying to get past us.
...All in all after three hours of pure messing about, the machine was in place and working.
...Then it was back to the Aficio 2045 which had started to develop a CQ problem whist I was otherwise occupied and which the customer was about to loudly inform me of.
..all this was on the last Friday before I went on a two week holiday/vacation. Happy Days!!
