    fiery pi6200 hack

hey, i am thinking about using an old fiery pi6200 as a file server.... put linux on it, hook it up to my home network. use it for downloading / serving movies and music to another computer on my home network.

Anyone know anything about this? thoughts or ideas about feasibility? I think I read that the newer fiery's are linux based, and internally it looks like a computer, pci slots, usb port pc100 ram (should work with linux as a file server, nothing else though I think due to age and speed? of processor).

Any help or insight would be helpful!.

I suppose there is no reason it wouldn't work. It's essentially a pc without a monitor. I wouldn't think the drive would be all that desirable though. Aren't they relatively small by todays standards? Are you planning on upgrading it? I don't have any of them laying around, but I'm very interested to see how it turns out.

(I've been toying with putting Linux on my iPod too.)

Samir: No, not again. I... why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam? I swear to God, one of these days, I just kick this piece of shit out the window.

      mips r5000 os compatibility

I've heard netbsd might be compatible with this processor (I believe it is a 200 mhz 64 bit processor?), and maybe some versions of linux, Im researching it now but any info out there would be helpful! Also I read that SGI machines that run mips (risc) processors run an os called IRIX?
