Can I print from a usb memory stick on bizhub 601 without optional hard disk instaled

Just a week ago my office bought a Konica Minolta Bizhub 601. Since then I'm trying to print from a "external memory" (usb stick) but with no luck. One of my friends told me that to print from a usb stick I need an optional hard disk installed in the machine. But when I'm inserting the usb stick in the printer it's gives me a message that tell me I can print from the user box function. But In the user box function there is no option for "external memory". But the display shows a small usb icon at the bottom of the screen. Plz help.

first not all usb drives work. I have 5 different brands and only 2 work with this model.
Second do the following and let me know the results
insert usb drive
press user box
press use document
press system user box and see if external memory is there.
If so select it.
If not then either usb drive is turned off in admin mode or the drive is not recognized.
I do not remember if hard drive was mandatory or not.
