Hello! Ex-Ricoh/Savin tech here. Aficio 1035 questions.

I used to be a field service tech for Ricoh several years ago, but now am freelancing computer, printer and copier repair.
Presently, I'm working to clean up and do some maintenance on an Aficio 1035. It's got toner flying everywhere, so I've got a new toner hopper on the way.
They're refilling the toner with type 1170 toner because they ordered the wrong stuff--any ideas what this is doing to the machine? I'm about to order some new 3105d toner.
There's a lightly dotted line down the middle of the page. I remember seeing this quite often on these machines when I was a tech. Is the charge roller doing that? The drum appears clean. I spent so much time cleaning up the machine I didn't get a chance to check out the transfer unit yet, although I think that would only cause a solid line if it's full of toner, right?

You've got a lot of faults here that will take quite a bit of sorting. Going in order:

Toner leak - split dev seals and overtoning due to wrong toner installed. Replace dev / PCU seals and developer. It will have been wrecked by the wrong toner. It will severely confuse the TD and ID sensor readings.

Dotted line is probably charge roller, but could be hot roller. This machine sounds like it needs a serious FULL pm. PCU and fuser rebuild, developer and filters, transfer belt and blade.

If you skimp on servicing these machines, they will run like a bag of shit. Look after them, they will still run like a bag of shit, but a bit cleaner
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

thanks for the reply. They do seem to only run well right after a major PM for a few thousand copies. The oddballs that own this one aren't even charging enough to cover toner cost, but I'll at least be make it appear to be working better for now with a new toner hopper and toner. Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the charge roller--I'll be replacing it as well.
