    rates

Chicago IL, Madison WI area serviced. $100 an hr plus 15$ travel charge.
It still isn't enough though. We checked our burden rate and it should be 125$ an hr, but this was done after we already raised from 75$ to 100$ and we don't want to give our clients " sticker shock". Determining your burden rate would help you to decide what YOU need to charge.
I have a spreadsheet that you can plug in the data and get your personal burden rate????? randolphj@martingroup.com if interested.
After all is said and done, More is said than done.

              Charges

Charging for a job should be based on several variables:
              -Service Call--Distance from Base(from $45.00 up)
              -Labor--Machine sofistication/value(from $40.00/hour, min two hours)
-Parts-- used or projected to use.
-Shipping and Handling--Depends on the importance of the machine for the business.
-Emergency repair on the same day or can wait a couple of days?
              -Customer "size/importance"
-New customer, old Customer, friend or relative?
As you can see is not easy, a book can be written about it. It all depends on "YOUR COST OF OPERATION" and next door "COMPETITION".
              Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems really complicated, do you control it with any software (OMD, e-Automate) or do you just figure it out as needed?

Here in LA I charge $80 + parts.
Thats mainly on the Xerox High Volume.

I've heard that there are few around town that are charging $40/hr. These are mainly guys that have a "day Job" with a service provider, and are doing service on the side. This messes it up for legit techs trying to scrape by.
                            I'm just a "Toner Monkey"

We are in Northwest NJ and we charge based upon distance from our office. Min. charge for a local call is $75 for 30 minutes. Just about everything evens out to $125 per hour. We just change the min. charge to make it worthwhile to drive farther. So if the customer is 45 minutes away we charge them for an hour even if we are there for 10 minutes. We don't charge any "travel fees" outside of the service rate.
