    need tech info

i've been working on copiers for 2 years now. my employer is wanting to send me to get A+ and Network + certified, which i'm willing to do.

now can someone "in the know", PM pay rates that would be comparable to these certifications?

    thanks

When Oce was hiring some years ago they made it mandatory everyone had to get the A+ cert to go with a 3% increase. Alot of guys were not so happy.
I went for an interview with Oce about the same time and had A+ and MCSE both. They were ecstatic and I started at 44k. Look at it as job security and personal developement. It will help you get perspective on your repairs. As to how much they're worth........its in the eye of the beholder. I hope your boss is paying for them.

yeah, the company is paying for the training. i just want to kind of have a figure in mind when we talk about pay raise that goes with it.

what part of the country are you located?

From the land of the $7 bizzillion bail out. DC metro area actually Chantilly Va.

I can appreciate your question but really the answer depends on your boss. Im sure he doesnt expect you to flee with your certs but dont believe that you will have an upper hand when the eval comes. If he is ready to pony up for the coursework then that may be the "raise" he is thinking you are entitled to, at this time anyway. The reality is if you are a better technician as a result of the training or even w/o the training or if your eval relies on numbers (as mine did) AND you have access to that info then you have a strong case. As you know the worst thing of all is to not have a way to quanitatively assess the worth. If the eval is not based on objective numbers and only on his opinion then you'll probably get just the nominal 3% cost of living increase which has nothing at all to do with a merit increase BUT... thats life.

To give you a bit of perspective, its the economy..... by the way I took my training on my own dime because I "enjoyed" it because I had a computer background. At the time I saw no way out of the job I was doing and it was only after a lay off that I went interviewing and found out another employer really looked favorably on it. Moral: You wont know how it might help but it will.

        Good luck
