    Ramps and Tommy Lift Gates

Tommy Lift and Maxon gates are pricey if youre a small copier business. I have a Tommy liftagate on the truck, but now we have a van and need a solution for loading copiers into it. I'm looking at alternatives like ramps but wanted input from you all. Do you use lift gates or ramps? What's your take on ramps? Looking at this one from Ebay:

Ramps are a practical solution for small copier businesses on a budget. However, prioritize safety by selecting high-quality ramps and using proper loading techniques. If your budget allows, consider investing in a heavy-duty hand truck or other assistive equipment.

When we were a small company 30 years ago we used an aluminum ramp into a van. We still have the ramp and there are instances where it comes in handy. The ramp pictured does not look up to the job. What we used was considerably heavier duty than the one pictured. I'd be afraid a mid-volume color machine would be too much for it. Loading copiers is no joke. One of these machines could kill someone. Using ramps and escaleras is serious business. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

What is the typical weight and dimensions of the copiers you’re loading? Do you have multiple models that vary significantly in size?

We had a dealer picking up a machine with a new set of aluminum ramps and they were flexing under the weight of the copier. We finally convinced him to let us load it with a picker for his own safety. I would definitely check the weight rating on whatever you buy and think long-term of your safety vs just the cost.

            Wrongful injury/death lawsuits are expensive.
