    Quickbooks Hell

The woman that does my books retired after working for me for many years and I hired a new girl a few months back. On the surface, things seemed to be going well.

Full disclosure: I should have stayed on top of the situation better.

Anyway, it's almost the end of the business year, so I decided to go over the books before turning over to my accountant. What I found almost gave me a heart attack.

She was making random journal entries to make things balance and just doing insane shit that made no sense.

I put in about 14 hours on Saturday and Sunday to get this mess straightened out.

    I hate accounting and Quickbooks.

I'll never make that mistake again. Lesson learned.

Maybe you should have trained her better.

QuickBooks is really just bloated garbage at this point. Even the cloud service is buggy and slow at the best of times.

I moved my invoicing and transactions over to Wave, which has been much easier to work with. The only downside with it is there is no inventory management, but I was able to just cook up a PowerApp to deal with that for any stock parts.

I don't disagree that QuickBooks is hot garbage. The only problem is that I've been using it for 20+ years and I've learned it backwards and forwards. You know how it is....you get used to something and it's hard to change. I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that when trying to sell a copier.

I had a long talk this morning with the new girl that I hired and she admitted that she was having personal problems at home and she basically said that she couldn't handle the stress of the job and she very politely quit. That was probably a good thing. This is a part of the job that I hate.

Anyway, I have someone that was recommend to me by the bookkeeper at one of my accounts. We'll see....

You may be right. Or I need to hire the right person to begin with.

I've been really lucky with my girl that does my billing. She started with me when still in school for Accounting and has done a good job. She works for me two days a week and with a toddler, and another kid on the way, the part-time has worked perfectly for her. It's going to be rough in a couple of months when she's off for a few months. Luckily I follow the calendar year as my fiscal year so 2021 will be all tied up before the baby arrives.
