    Changes to the business

For the last many years, I've had a business partner. He's basically a silent partner that is getting up there in age. Anyway, I had an opportunity to buy him out and I did so. The first thing I decided to do is change the name, logo website, ect.

I hired a professional company to design the logo. I think I'm gonna use them for the website, also. The name of the new company is: Coast Business Machines. Changing names isn't cheap. Besides new business cards, website, logo...I'm also gonna have to have all of my outside signage made all over again and it's not cheap.

I'm also trying in talks with Kyocera to get the Copystar dealership in our area. There's already a dealer here but I don't think they're moving too many boxes. I never see any of their machines. So far I haven't made a lot of progress. It's wait and see.

You might check to see if there are any distributors/jobbers that you can order new Copystar equipment through. Initially the available markup might be a little less but if you can move more boxes a month than the local dealer(s) Kyo may decide to talk to you.

That's not a bad idea. But I'm not sure of what companies that I could become small equipment dealer thru. If anyone knows, holla at me.

I was under impression you sell mostly used machines. Am I wrong?
There is big difference in clients base between used and new machines dealers.
What is your business plan for A4 and A3 machines, color and B&W?

I do sell used machines. Years ago I owned a Kyocera authorized dealership. I sold out to a bigger company and have been out of the business up until recently. I have a plan for all of the things you're talking about.

Then you know getting a manufacturer's dealer status as quick as possible is imperative.
I dunno US market but here we are getting excellent support from Brother for our small MFPs. Worth a shot if you can get in touch with them.
And it's really important to get reliable source of good A3 machines those are your money makers you know

You could get the Copystar machs thru 1 of their wholesale distributors, such as: Impressions Solutions in Columbus Miss or OES Solutions in Westfield Indiana. Those are 2 that have very good customer service.

I knew there had to be some when I made the first reply to this thread. Being retired and living in California, I just didn't have any names to suggest.

                  I owe you a beer.

Just got off the phone with Impressions Solutions. He's sending over the application. It's pretty much a done deal. Man, I owe you big time. Thanks again.

No, sir, new machines don't have that margin. But quick point. Not everyone wants a used machine and will only buy new. That's money that you're never gonna make. It's a different market that I want to be in. I'll still sell used machines.

No to mention 3 to 5 years down the line if you take good care of your customers and their equipment, they will be buying their next new machine from you. You will now have a used machine that you know the complete service history on and with a little clean up can then sell it to someone who can't afford to purchase new. H+Far better than buying used machines from some jobber. Usually the machines they have are the ones the original selling dealer no longer wanted in his/her territory.

P.S. About those repos, if the original purchaser was unable to pay for them, most like they were also unable to afford to maintain them as well.

Well, I'm all set up with Impressions Solutions and am now authorized to sell Kyocera/ Copystar products. The great thing is that their main warehouse is only a couple of hours from here. This will be a game changer for me.

Yes used machs are more profitable but the smaller A4's can be hard to find in the used market. A4's are Kyocera's & Impressions Solutions strong point. The no quota aspect of buying from a distributor is great too. No hard sales tactics from the sales rep at the end of each month/qtr/year. And that leads to only stocking what you need, not what the mfr wants you to.
