If your manager trust you and knows that you do a good job and reliable . then sometimes he won't bother calling you at 4.30 pm. No one like pressure from any job.Comment

My working hours are 8:00 to 5:00, with a 1 hour lunch.
I live just under 30 minutes from my office.
Some of my accounts are 5 minutes from home, and others are over 2 hours.
If I need to leave home in the morning before 7:30, it's overtime.
If I get home after 5:30, it's overtime.

I have often said that the benifits of working for a small family business outweigh making more working for someone else. We open for business 8:30. Most of use report to the shop and pick up new tickets and supplies. If I show up a few minutes late- no problem. We are not tracked in any way. I decide who gets fixed and in what order. I could complete 8 work orders one day and 3 the next and nothing would be said. Basicly if I take care of all my customers and no one is calling and complaining, then I get to do what I want. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Most likely you are being paid on an 8-5 timeclock- your dispatchers are probably in their seats ready to receive calls by 8:00, your shop tech is already in place to work on refurbs, the AR/AP staff are ready and on-site..... Why aren't you? You should have already been given your first morning call, and calculated the drive time, and thought about possible delays, and corrected to be ready to work at the time you agreed to- why is this so hard to comprehend? If they called you to be in the shop at 8:00, would you show up at 8:21? And if they want you to work until 5:00, can you? or do you leave at 4:48, or 4:32, or 4:50?
I do have offices that seem to have issues with getting their doors open by 8am. I am seeing this more and more and have no control over their tardiness but suffer those consequences. Recently, a school system in my area instituted a no visitors until 8:1am policy. I'm not sure we couldn't do 8:30 - 5:30 and be more productive sometimes.Comment
