    Going to class, training question.

Does your company make you sign like a contract, for one year if you go to school on a machine. and if you leave the company before then, you have to pay it back?

Ours started doing that.. I don't think it's right but I can understand why. I want your thoughts and opinions.

We have the same policy but ours is for 2 years.

If you are unhappy in your job, then I would suggest that you don't do any more training just in case you decide to bounce.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

I will probably stay with the company at least thru this year and see how it goes before I decide to leave . I think two years is crazy lol

By sending you for training your company will be investing their resources on you. At the end of the day the company expects a return on its investment. By accepting to go for the training you have in effect accepted their terms of the contract. Should you then breach the contract, it is only right that you must refund the investor's money

This is normal. Good business practice.

Back in the 70's and 80's, the company I worked for did not have such a policy .
They didn't pay us very well ; but otherwise respected us ( for the most part ) and we were loyal to them.
( at least back then......SERVICE was not run by sales )

In today's market , we are not respected , not paid well ; the employers know it and seem to think that we will BAIL on them if we gather more knowledge : therefore ," By sending you for training your company will be investing their resources on you. At the end of the day the company expects a return on its investment. " .

I may not like it either : but : there it is .
I still enjoy learning about NEW equipment , and try to take advantage of the On-Line training . They can't charge you for that .

my company would not even consider that. They would be shocked if i wanted to work elsewhere.
