    Tech pay

May hire a part time tech with 11 yrs experience. this would be on an as needed basis, maybe one or two days per week. thinking of paying as a subcontractor and let him handle own taxes. will reimburse mileage also. wondering what a fair starting hourly rate would be as a subcontractor or also if i put him on the books what would be a fair rate. i don't want to offend him but i don't want to break the bank either. also what do others get pd. or pay out for mileage. I am in Massachusetts.
    any input much appreciated.

Salary questions are always answered the same way. Here's a brief summary

    "it depends"

A bit more vague than I was hoping for. I realize it "depends" on a lot of things such as experience, location, economy, etc, etc.

Was hoping to get a reasonable starting point, especially if there is anyone in the Mass. Ct. Area

I would pay per call. Depending on labor charge $25.00 to $35.00 per call includes mileage within 40 miles.
Just use part timer for billable calls so your contract prices stay the same.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

hes worth at least 15 bucks an hour. Running calls on a contract basis means he needs to stay available. Able to follow up on part returns and promote the business so you can add to that up to 20 bucks an hour depending how much he does that. I would take into account color knowledge though and sales for color.

For just running one call and going home you might want to make min like 2 hours pay. So if it takes him an hour to go take care of a jam or something it was worth it.
