Mac OS 10.11 laptop cannot complete adding printer.

Installed a driver package for Konica Minolta C364e correct for this OS.

Clicked on + sign to add printer. Choosed to install by IP address with LPR/LPD type. Chose the driver I needed. When I click add nothing happens. I noticed the buttons for this window to close/minimize/maximize don't work.

I went to activity monitor and it shows "Add Printer" as non responsive and I have to force close it but still will not work. Waited several minutes. Tried rebooting.

Any Mac gurus know a way around this.

Even tried just installing using the default generic driver.

Have you tried Bonjour or Airprint?

This is a known fault with the CUPS system, and it happens with multiple different brands of printers / copiers.

I find it better to install the printer as a HP Jetdirect device, instead of LPD, although I have only tried this recently it seems to work. Also, other people on the Mac forums seem to prefer this protocol.

I would also try Bonjour or maybe IP via an IPP connection rather than LPD. I know LPD is the preferred method but for the sake of testing....

I thought about IPP but I didn't cause it usually gives me problems. This Mac didnt pick up on a bonjour connection, but I didn't check to see if bonjour got disabled on the copier. Will also consider using the HP jetdirect.

I usually use the LPD connection type for older Macs, but recently with the newer Macs, I have noticed that the Bonjour connection links up better and when doing a test page printout from the localhost:631 function in Safari, it seems to align the border and center the image on the page better!...I guess you just have to try both and see which looks the best and links up properly!
