smb v1 and wanna cry

Sorry if I am riding on another post, but I am curious what people are experiencing with this malware. For the most part it seems SMB scanning is stopping.

I guess I need to get caught up better on this malware. What have you been experiencing? Any cures yet. I guess everyone is waiting on firmware.

I think the smallest problem is the scanning.........if all your files are encrypted.....

Hi there!

We have a customer with this problem that found a thread (https://community.spiceworks.com/top...-really?page=1) and got SMB scanning on Ricoh machines solved.

They changed the SMB port from 139 to 445. This can be done through telnet.

msh> smb client port

-Displays the current setting


msh> smb client port #

-Change port number

Setting value	Result
139 (default)	SMB client uses port 139 port
445	SMB client uses port 445 port

I think the smallest problem is the scanning.........if all your files are encrypted.....

Yup, I think everyone realizes this, however, we have customers losing smb scanning because they are trying to prevent infection by shutting down SMBv1.

I think the best solution is to update your system, Microsoft released a patch even for Xp.... If your system is up to date you can turn on smb

Newer KMs can turn off SMB ver1 and only use v2/3..This is a softswitch change and must be done through service mode though. Emujo

Once you are patched you can then turn SMB1 back on. That is what one of my IT support companies is doing as too many things stop working so as they are patched there is no issue.

been having the same issue on a sharp mxm316, and , mxm356. An IT friend found this link to set up LDAP for athentication.
