Imagerunner Advance 4245 Auto paper selection message for print jobs.

The customer reports that they get a message from the machine to select
the correct paper. All they do is select a tray and it takes off and prints.
But they have it all set for auto select. I went through the settings under
additional functions and set it to what I thought would fix the problem.
And it seemed to do that for just one person. Well another person
just started having the same problem.

Has anyone else seen this? My gut feel is a driver setting? I just sold this to them about
4-5 months ago. It seems odd that it would just now surface.

I'm going back Monday to try and find something.
    Any suggestion welcome.

    Thanks

    Paper size override maybe?

    We enable it by default.

      Cipher,
Thank you for your reply. I saw this machine today and did make a change on that screen. I turned the paper size override to "on".
That seemed to take care of the auto selection concern. Now they don't have to walk in to the printer and select a tray.
Then one of the secretaries mentioned that she could not get collated sets while printing.
I changed one of the printers settings the output setting I set to collate. Then she selected collate and sent
the job over. It still did not collate that job.
I'm thinking the IT tech needs to reload the driver or use a different driver?
I'm not sure, I do not do IT work.
Is there another place to look? Or setting I need to change?

      Thanks

On Canon's I would recommend using the UFRII driver.

        • Use the setup.exe instead of manually adding the printer, as this will install the DIAS service.

        IMPORTANT!

Lots of I.T departments and individuals are making this mistake.

Do not mix newer package aware drivers with older non-package aware drivers.
Doing so can lead to all kinds of weird printing problems!

To properly and completely remove a print driver and all it's related files, you do so from the Print Server Properties.
It's a little different on Windows Server.

        1. Delete any jobs in the queue for the printer in question and delete the printer.
        2. Then go to Print Server Properties and remove the driver and driver package.
        3. IF that fails, restart the print spooler service and try again.

Hopefully I can sit down with their IT guy and show him this page.

It's possible the default DOCUMENT settings (Word, Adobe, etc.) are set to pull paper from a specific tray for size/type. Those will override the driver's default settings.
