Kyocera TA-8001i scan to smb error 2101

I am having an issue connecting a PC (windows 10) to scan smb, The result is a 2101 error on a TA-8001i. First, let me start with, 1.) latest firmware is loaded on the MFP 2.) I made sure proper username and password are entered 3) shared the folder to everyone and user, also went into advanced sharing and shared out to everyone and user 4) made sure PC is on a private network 4) Port 445 enabled. I also temporarily turned of any malware and virus protection on the PC. Scan to email works
I checked 1-4-9 Send Error Codes troubleshooting(scan to SMB) guide as well.
If I turn on smb1 on the PC the scan completes, but I know the MFP has smb2 capabilities and do not want to enable smb1 due to known vulnerabilities. I spent about two hours on it and walked away with it still not working as it was the end of the day and customer needed to leave.
I have not had a chance to try other PC's or my laptop as of yet, but will be going back on Monday or Tuesday. Any suggestions?

    what antivirus do they have?

are they on a domain ?

can you scan to your laptop on their network?

scanning works best with a new admin level account...

what version of windows 10... not all windows 10 are the same???

scan to ftp may be simpler... if allowed... not hippa compliant... i believe...

Have you try the IP Address instead of the Host name?

Since enabling the SMB 1 allows the scan, I would check the security settings for the user! Using the advance sharing is the way to go but have found in a number of instances with Win 10 that it does not provide the proper security access to the folder that is being scanned to. Manually adding the user to the security setting with full control has resolved our issues.

Thank you, these are good questions; but, I do not have an answer for all of them, and will have to investigate more and come up with them. However, I do know the the PC had "home" version of Windows 10 and as far as I know they are using a cloud based server. I did not have a chance to hook my laptop up and try to scan to it as I was sent out there later in the day, got hung up and before I knew it, it was time to leave.

Honestly, I walked away from it and let the IT department handle it. I will contact them and see what their resolution was.

I finally talkedd to their IT dept., today. They did get it scanning to the computers, they told me they used IP addresses instead of host names, because, they are using a sonic wall and the sonic wall has no dns, so it only understands IP. I hop this helps.

Thanks for the update. In reality the sonic wall is just not allowing the DNS server through the way they have it setup. The sonic wall does not have a DNS server, only allows a DNS server if setup Properly. Hope they made DHCP reservations for the machine and the computers! The first power outage will probably scramble everything with IP addresses being re-assigned via DHCP resulting in another episode of not being able to scan. The beauty of using host names is that even if the IP address changes the machine can find the computer using the host name via DNS regardless of the new IP address. Is it really the sonic wall or the fact that they are using the DNS server from the ISP such as comcast? Using an ISP DNS server does not work as it does not allow for local devices to be registered on the network.

They did mention the fact that they had to setup DNS reservations for all the hardware conected.

I have seen where there was NO Sonicwall involved, yet I had to setup the scan to SMB with IP Address instead of Hostname. The only reason I could figure was that they had a Windows 10 Home Edition instead of the Professional version. [emoji41]

Is there a reason that you know of that will cause this issue on Windows 10 Home edition? I just had this issue and IP address instead of hostname works. I tried turning off all the virus and defender protection to make sure they were not involved. I tried different dns servers as well but only works when using IP address for scanning to smb.

It is not necessarily an issue with the home edition, but where is the DNS server residing. Most ISP's do not allow netbios over their networks and will not register individual device names in the DNS lookup for computers/mfps. The reason the IP address works and the hostname does not is that with the IP address it does not use the ISP's DNS server and goes directly to the IP address you entered. The hostname requires querying the ISP's DNS server for the IP address which it does not have and results in not finding the host.
