Windows 10 SMB scanning issue on new and recently updated computers

I have several different customers who have lost scanning ability after windows 10 did an update. I also cannot get 4 new computers in 2 different customer locations to scan to folder.

Are there new settings that need to be changed to allow SMB scanning?

I have allowed port 139 in the windows firewall as well as created an exception the antivirus software.

I have set NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

    The folder is configured correctly.

The advanced settings in network and sharing are set correctly.

SMB 1.0 is turned on in programs and features.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

search on CTN for this issue... has been covered a multitude of times.

what brand unit are you trying to connect. Most machines ( older ) require special firmware.

One thing to remember is that Microsoft neither sells nor manufacture multi function devices. Until they do, they do not give a flying F about our being able to scan to folders.

Firmware, firmware firmware. Cannot stress this enough. With that being said some older machines will not work with SMBV2 even with updated firmware. This is because the manufacture has deemed these to old or the hardware just cannot support the software for SMB V2.

          Options are:
          1) Enable SMBV1 on the computer. Yes there is risks to this. Check with the customer before doing so.
          2) Setup FTP
          3) Setup email. Of course if it will not support SMBV2 chances are modern e-mail servers will be out of the question.
          4) If the machine supports it ,scan to the HDD of the device. Not always the best but generally works.
          5) Upgrade the machine or walk away.

But as mentioned this has been covered many times on this board. A simple search will bring up many answers.

Three things that you need to check again. First, SMB does not use port 139 any longer, it is blocked internally in Windows, allowing it through the firewall will not have any effect, you need to be using port 445. Secondly, re-check the advanced folder sharing paying attention to the security tab. Win10 does not always add the user to the security tab even if you have selected them on the advanced sharing. Lastly, have you checked the firewall [assuming Windows firewall] that under both in-bound and out-bound rules for file and printer sharing that the rule for the network you are using is enabled? By default these are not enabled and you need to enable the rule to allow the scans.

The last one, I didn't know. Thank you for that.

                After:
                Enable SMBV1 on the computer.

You have to do a restart the pc, without, there is no effekt.

And you have to repeat the process after every time Microsoft does an update.
