Printing from Oracle on Bizhub C250

I'm throwing this out there as I have run into a dead end.

I have a customer who is printing from Oracle (a Java based database) through a Solaris 10 print server. When they send through the jobs, there is a heap of garbage that is added through out the job.

The customer also has a Bizhub 350, which prints the jobs fine. The same job also prints fine when sending it to a HP printer. I am using the latest firmware on both devices and the latest version of Konica Minolta Print Utility. I have even tried using HP drivers on the Solaris box with no luck.

It seems that the C250 is having issues interpreting the PDL. I have done a data capture from the machine and everything seems ok, but my PDL knowledge isn't what you would call fantastic.

Just hoping that someone out there has seen this issue, or something similar.

    Cheers in advance.

    Hi

Are you using the Pcl or postscript driver.

I have tried both PCL and PS drivers, HP and Konica Minolta drivers and the Konica Minolta Print Utility that contains drivers specific to Solaris 10.

It seems as if the RIP is having the problems as a Bizhub 350 will print everything correctly without an issue.

Have checked all bulletins and firmware. I work for a Konica Minolta dealer and I have Konica Minolta stumped. That's why I made a post here to if anyone else had come accross this issue.

              Hi
              Just a few questions

What is the firmware version of this machine? And which driver version (PCL or PS) are they using with it? Which HP driver did they try to use with the Solaris box? Have they tried the HP Laserjet 5?

Ok, here is a list of drivers and things tried.

                1. HP Laser Jet 4050, 5000 and 5 PCL (This works with the Bizhub 350)
                2. HP Laser Jet 4050, 5000 and 5 PS
                3. Konica Minolta Print Utility (Contains driver specifically for Solaris 10)
                4. Update Firmware (from Phase 2 to Phase 3.05)
                5. Disabled PS Passthrough on the PS driver

One thing I am trying to get time to do is to get a Data Capture from each machine so that it can be compared. At the end of the day, I believe it is going to be something with the MFP board (RIP board or what ever else you want to call it) on the C250 not being able to determine one part of the PDL that is sent to it.

The Solaris server isn't running CUPS and the IT guys have no intention of installing CUPS on this server. So basically the machine is just receiving RAW print jobs and commands via the network.

Cheers for your help so far.

Make sure your PDL on the C250 is set to Auto and not PCL/PS also turn on CR/LF. Also on the print-out, what is the garbage that is printing out? You will see whether it is a PCL or PS string.

Have you been able to check the firmware version (and upgrade and test if not on the latest version)?

                            Solution

Thank you to everyone that helped out and gave suggestions.

Konica Minolta suggested to the customer that they install PASTA which is a piece of Oracle software that converts ASCII to PS before sending the print job through.

BTW, All the firmware was at the latest, it was just the way the machine inturpretted the ASCII print information.

                            Thanks again.
