    Altalink 8100 series SMB scan

New to Xerox. We have been selling some Xerox machines for less than a year.So far the veralink and every other MFP we sell has worked ok using the host name to scan to a shared folder. The Altalink does not work using the host name.We can get it to work using the IP address but that would cause problems using this methods at customers. We have called Xerox but they just said they would look into it and just us the IP address.Anyone else having this problem......solutions?

Does the customer have their own DNS server or are they using the DNS server from the ISP? Most ISP's will not recognize internal hostnames on their network that is why the IP address entry works and the hostname does not. You might also want to check in your network settings where the DNS setting is pointing to, an internal DNS server or the ISP's server.

That has not been my experience with my router (DNS cache) but it's an easy check to find out by pinging the hostname.

Almost every install I do will not have a local dns server .If there is no DNS sever the machine should do a local broadcast to resolve the host name using netbios or mDNS.Like I said every other machine has work using host names on this exact network but the altalink will not.

Also note we do have a proper DNS server here.Using it or using the router as the DNS server or no DNS provides same results.
