brother ads-3100 scanner One0youch

Hello. I have been tasked by my boss to enable the brother ads-3100 scanner to use its button to scan. I have fully installed the suite and set up a workflow. To my knowledge I should be able to set up the "machine scan' to use the button on the machine to scan following a selected work flow. An error indicating that it can't detect the machine occurs when I go through Machine scan setup as if its not there even though I can scan through the program.

The brother ads-3100 scanner is plugged in via USB and does not have a ethernet port for network connections. From what I have seen in the manual it should function. I have even fully reinstalled the software suite and reseated the USB connection. Is there some corrective measure I am missing?

I am not familiar with Brother, but for those makes a I am familiar with USB scan is a pull scan only either TWAIN or WIA. Scan to folder or scan to email requires a network connection.
