    iPad A1337, 1st Generation, firmware

    Happy and healthy 2022, guys.

My sister is has an old but barely used iPad A1337, 1st Generation. She said that suddenly (likely during an firmware update) the iPad doesn't boot anymore. Tried to use iTunes for W10/64 to reinstall firmware since I have no Apple here, but I am getting error 2003 after a certain time.

Tried several solutions from the Internet but problem remains. Since the problem could be the W10/64 computers I have, I would like to try an old W7/64 (more or less the same generation as that old iPad) in the hope to reinstall the "frimwar " this way.

For some reason I am not able anymore to get the proper file from iTunes. Its telling me to go to the Microsoft Store to download but it needs an account there which I do not want to open. Anyone having the iTunes software for W7/64 with which I can reinstall the firmware for this ancient piece please?

Looks like a 2003 error is generally related to USB issues. Have you tried a different USB port? The computer should have a USB3 port on it, either with a Blue interior tab or with the logo of USB SS near it. Also make sure that there's nothing other than the keyboard, mouse, and the tablet plugged into the PC.

Also, knowing Apple, make sure you're using a genuine USB cable and not a third-party one.

      Re: iPad A1337, 1st Generation, firmware ** SOLVED **

The original genuine Apple USB-Cable did the trick. Wow....
What did they do to keep 3rd party cables out? Did they hide somewhere a resistor or capacitor in the original cable the iPad is looking for?

      Thanks rthonpm for your help!

Often it's just garbage components in the third-party ones. I've seen some cables where to cut down on the cost they'll only connect the charging pins on each side so that the cable won't transmit data at all: most people really only use the cables to charge anyway so they figure why add in the extra pins?
