Scan to folder and FQDN -RICOH

Hi ,

Let's start from the begining. Machine i was configuring the scan to folder- RICOH MP 5500. Customer has wanted to have the scan to folder installed but they use Distributed File System and they required to use FQDN with a path similiar to \\cwss.nhs.co.uk\departments_aaa\care\scans.
Unfortunately when we were trying to browse the network we could not get any response. Connection with the PC failed - using connection test. I have been on site with their IT support so there was not an issue with permissions as we have applied his login and password(admin rights).
The question is, does anyone came accross this issue and was able to get this working using FQDN. All of the network information were taken using DHCP server , so we have had DNS ip addresses configured , proper gateway, domain name etc etc.

How are the permissions set up for the destination folder? Is there any firewall enabled on the destination pc (Windows or otherwise)? Are there any anti virus programs possibly blocking the SMB process? What is the OS on the destination pc?

We have been using Admin account so he had a full permision to this folder, As far as i am aware they use 2k3 server system . Have not checked firewall but we were able to browse different location using UNC name syntax \\server\share so i would it think that was a firewall blocking the traffic or any other antivirus system(but i may be wrong).

FQDN

For login name try using fqdn.... example username@domain.local or username@theirservername.local . etc.....

Tried IP instead of the server name? Copier may not be resolving the \\cwss.nhs.co.uk

Also if you have a default login set, say for SMB in "File Transfer" try removing it. I've seen these MFP's diplay a message such as yours instead of telling you it can't connect because of the creditials.

What I was trying to say was, on the folder itself, make sure it's shared and the settings are so that anyone can access and modify the folder (not just read only).

I know this is several months late, but it still may be of some benefit.

I have just recently discovered that Ricoh MFPs will not scan to folder in DFS environments, regardless of how you try to configure it.

Reason being that DFS requires the MFP to send its credentials twice, which it simply can't do. And no, there are no SP modes that can fix this.

For whatever it may be worth, newer Canon machines with Universal Send DO work this way.

If you truly need this functionality, my recommendation would be to wait for GlobalScan NX Serverless version 1.2, which is literally due out any day. (I understand that it is already available in Europe.) The current version 1.1.x.x doesn't support DFS.

I have also been told that there is no plan for Ricoh to change this via a firmware update or upgrade, as there is relatively very little call for it.

The pricing on GX NX is very attractive, so it may be a viable alternative.

Thanks for the Info. As the "connectivity" guy I run across all kinds of speed bumps as I learn these things. Heck had to look up "DFS environment" Not seen thins as of yet thankfully.
