    Mac OS Ventura

    macOS Ventura to be released to all users on October 24

    Apple announced macOS Ventura at WWDC 2022 in June along with iOS 16. However, while the iOS update was released to the public in September, macOS 13 was delayed until October. Now Apple has confirmed that macOS Ventura will be available to the public next Monday, October 24.

    What’s new in macOS Ventura?

    macOS Ventura (or macOS 13) comes with several new features. The next version of the operating system enhances the continuity features between iPhone and Mac, so that an iPhone can now be used as a computer webcam. Another new continuity feature lets you transfer a FaceTime call from an iPhone to a Mac or vice versa.

    Just like on iOS, iMessage users can finally edit and unsend messages on macOS. Mail has also been updated with options to unsend emails and Safari now supports passkeys, a new way to authenticate to apps and websites without a traditional password.

    There are many other new features like Desk View, new gaming APIs, redesigned Game Center dashboard, Stage Manager, and a Weather app for the first time on a Mac.
    macOS Ventura makes the things you do most on Mac even better, with powerful new ways to get more done, share and collaborate in your favorite apps, immerse yourself in next‑level games, and take full advantage of your other devices.

    According to Apple, macOS Ventura will be released for all users on November 24. The update requires a Mac introduced in 2017 or later. More details about macOS Ventura can be found on Apple’s website.

    It’s worth noting that iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 will also be released to the public next week.

    Re: Mac OS Ventura

    ... as many Macs in the field are set to automatic update and as many Mac users are keen to keep their computers at the latest version, it is unknown to me what print vendors print drivers are prepared for this new version.

    I am optimistic that print drivers and Dept Code settings developed for OSX12 Monterey will work.

    Should there be an issue, this would clearly be a case of billable labour to resolve.

      Re: Mac OS Ventura

      While many Macs in standalone environments will pull the updates, any in managed environments will likely be staying put on 12 for at least a few more months. Apple has a terrible tendency to break management features with every instance of the OS.

      Overall, the driver model appears to be the same as previous versions of MacOS so there shouldn't be too many printer related issues. The only change may be that older model devices may not see support in newer operating systems.

        Re: Mac OS Ventura

        Apple just announced macOS 13 Ventura. With the transition from Intel to its own silicon already completed and the M2 chip just revealed, this new operating system for the Mac will be limited to newer devices. Here are the Macs that will support macOS 13.

        • 2017 iMac and later;
        • 2017 iMac Pro and later;
        • 2018 MacBook Air and later;
        • 2017 MacBook Pro and later;
        • 2019 Mac Pro and later;
        • 2018 Mac mini and later;
        • 2017 MacBook and later;
        • 2022 Mac Studio

        It’s important to note that when Apple transitioned from PowerPC to Intel, the company dropped support for all previous computers in just two years. While Apple has been transitioning from Intel to its own silicon since the macOS 11 Big Sur, users will have at least another year to take advantage of new features and software updates, in case Apple ever decides to cut all Intel Macs at once in 2023.
