Re: Any "Thunderbird" Guru's here?
By "the repair function of Thunderbird" what exactly do you mean? Are you referring to the Repair Folder button in the Properties of a local folder? If so, either the .msf file had errors that it could not repair or the problem is in the BIGSTUFF data file.
If it is the .msf file To repair Thunderbird inbox, you can also delete the MSF file from Thunderbird profile and the next time you start Thunderbird, it recreates them. I would copy them to a removable device first in case they were not the problem.
I would also recommend to your customer 2 things:- Always compact folder first, This will prevent errors caused by discontinuities as the result of deleted emails.
- Never rename a folder. Create a new folder and copy of move the folder contents to the new folder.
As a last resort SysTools has a utility to export Thunderbird folders to MBOX folders than can then be viewed either with Outlook or SysTools MBOX viewer. -

You and BC are like fountains of knowledge.

It is called knowing how to use a quality search engine, which Google is not, it censors far too much. My engine of choice is Yahoo followed by freespoke, duckduckgo, bing and AOL. I searched .msf file type for thunderbird emails with Yahoo.Comment

Doesn't matter it's still impressing. Btw I found most of modern society incapable of using even basic search engines.A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.

Re: Any "Thunderbird" Guru's here?
First thing i'd check: Is it a local folder or a cloud synced one? If the later, just renaming it back to the old name could do the trick but i am certain you already did that.
Also make sure to disable any addons / plugins loaded in.
You mentioned having deleted the .msf files. Have you also deleted the pancea.dat file? Deleting .msf only wont help much.
Eventually you could also grab a backup from the windows.old directory. Has helped my customers gain their files back a lot of times.
NOTE: Make sure to backup anything you are going to "delete"Last edited by techsxge; 12-19-2022, 12:06 PM.Comment

As for this particular case I think the lady might've been not patient enough - it would be nice to know if Thunderbird actually stalled or just needed more time migrating everything (task manager can tell). On a low end computer with 4GB ram and a classic HDD I can imagine that this takes a lot of time and interrupting this process can lead to corrupt data.Comment
