    ipv4 multicast

    hello wizards and gents

    what does Ipv4 multicast do?

got a machine that goes offline randomly every few days, cant connect to LDAP msg was seen in the logs...

after talking to some folks, ipv4 multicast was asked to turned on... and off...

Isnt this protocol kinda like spamming? What scenario would this setting help?

    my thanks in advance

    Re: ipv4 multicast

I have never run into a class D network before. Who uses something like this? From what I understand this is a network where multicast is used constantly and would need to be turned on. I would think that someone who has this network set up should know a lot more about the why's and how's of your printer situation than we ever would.

I guess I made an assumption that since you are talking multicast, that this is class D. Is it just that the copier can't connect with the LDAP server?

That would explain some feedback from tech support.

But no, it isn't just Ldap. Machine goes offline. And then, the snmp has to be fudged to get it back again.
