    PDF Printing

We have a Ricoh 3035 that is really slow when printing PDF files.
Anything we need to do to speed this up?
    Thanks!

There are two ways to speed up PDF printing that I've found.

If you have PostScript installed, make sure to use the PostScript driver. If it's still slow, then make sure you have the latest version of the driver and that all firmware is up to date.

If you don't have the option installed, use the PCL 5 driver and change the resolution for any PDF file to 300 dpi instead of the standard 600. I've mainly seen this with PDF's that were created from scanned documents. For whatever reason 600 dpi printing takes forever to spool.

        Use LPR

If you are using the default windows configuration of your printer install LPR support for windows and print through the new port you will create. RAW doesn't transfer data faster than 500K(?) I think. LPR will support Gigabit Ethernet.

          RPCS, Anyone?

I've also had a lot of luck using the RPCS driver on PDFs.

You'll also find that Excel files aren't as persnickety with the RPCS, as well.

A basic thing to do is to go into Printer Properties--> Ports--> Configure and make sure SNMP is NOT checked.

if it is, then that is 99.99999% the reason, but it also means your network is the cause, meaning you have other issues that are showing up when this is enabled.

It doesn't matter what you are printing to, if it is SLOW, garbage, or only some pages print and this is enabled, disbale it and see if it helps. It always does!!!

Spread the word, make sure SNMP is not enabled for slow and other printing related issues - i.e. it takes 20 MINUTES to print 1 page PDF, but the same file prints to another printer instantly.

Happens everyday, everywhere, all the time.......

One really basic thing you might want to try is checking the "Print as Image" box in the print dialogue (not the print driver). I've solved several types of PDF print issues this way.

I really recommend switching to LPR and leaving out SNMP, too. It has solved many mysterious problems for me. Also, at least Adobe Reader 7 has caused me MASSIVE problems with many, many printers... Extremely slow printing, garbled output, you name it... Well, You didnt state the version you use, but make sure it is not 7.

Alternately, you could try another PDF reader and see how it interacts with your printer. I recommend Foxit Reader - which is small and fast and has replaced Adobe's bloatware in my everyday use.
