SMB Scan to a Network Appliance

I have a new customer who scans to their 3.5 TB "X" drive which is storage appliance on the LAN.

I want to scan to a folder on the X drive.

From Windows Explorer, I can see the "X" drive but when I right click on Properties, I cannot see any network path.

Any idea how to reveal the netwotk path?

Storage appliance? You mean like a NAS?

      Is the folder Shared?

Once shared it should be the same hostname folder name. User name password etc..

If all else fails create a new folder

Try this, open Windows File Explorer. In the address bar, enter \\192.168.X.X\. Replace 192.168.X.X with the actual IP address of your NAS. The names of any shares you have access to should automatically show up. Arrow down to the share you want to map the drive to. If the folder you want to map the drive to opens, click on the address bar and copy the link. You can then use that to map the drive.

Never assume the folder was setup correctly
                Lots of permissions etc..

Usually if it's done correctly you just need to enter the correct information as you normally would do into the copier

Use 'net use' command in command prompt, depend how they mount it, check it with and without admin right.

It sounds like it might be a drive mapped by group policy, which generally doesn't show the entire path just the name of the share.

You may need to run a gpresult command like gpresult /h c:\temp\gpo.html which will give you all of the policies applying on the machine and should be able to give you the path.

Also, try not to map drives by IP as it uses a weaker authentication method, NTLM, than a fully qualified name which uses Kerberos.

The customer's 3rd party IT Support is going to be onsite Friday AM to help me remotely configure scan to network folder. The customer has a Synology NAS.

My new customer subscribes to MS365. My MFP can scan directly to OneDrive to Business via a low cost app.

Does this not perform the same function as a NAS drive?

It does, however you may be breaking a workflow or sending documents to folders that don't have the same permissions so they would likely only be accessible by a single user.

OneDrive is essentially a personal SharePoint so you'd either have to add every user with their folders as opposed to a single location.

I've never tried this, but would it be possible to scan to a single folder in SharePoint? In SharePoint you can add multiple users to the same Public Group and they have both read and write permissions.

Edit: I found this bit of information:

Scan app for Microsoft 365 allows you to directly scan documents to SharePoint. This makes you work more efficiently without the need to leave your SharePoint interface. The SharePoint Scan app is harmoniously integrated with SharePoint interface so you get the same familiar look and feel you are used to.
