Try enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP on the server by using the following:

    1. Network and Sharing Centre
    2. Change Adapter Properties
    3. Right Click on the network adapter that serves the internal network and click Properties
    4. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties
    5. Advanced
    6. WINS
    7. Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP

This caught me out once before with a 2008 R2 server that I installed.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Re: Ricoh & Server 2008 SMB Scanning

Always be leery of the advice to disable a service or protocol on a customer's server, especially if it's a domain controller. After all, if someone finds a way into their network and a security audit finds that change whether it contributed to the intrusion or not, do you really want that risk?

More than likely your issue is related to NTLMv2 which has been the standard for SMB and network sharing throughout the NT 6 family (Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008). As terramobil said, most Ricoh devices from the AF 3xxx series on can be configured through firmware to use NTLMv2. Start with updating all of the firmware, it never really hurts does it? Then be sure to have the domain admin create a user account for the machine(s). The passwords should be set to never expire (makes configuration easier), and should be a part of any group or OU required to access the share. For authentication try domain\user then the password.

Finally, make sure that the firewall recognises the copier as a 'friendly' device. Sometimes a misconfigured firewall can block the communication.

Keep us posted on your progress, looking around the forums you'll see this is a very popular topic.

Windows Server 2008 Small Business Edition. Ricoh MFD's, applies to all of them. Scan to folder does not work. It is not possible to browse to the share from the copier. There is no sharing/NTFS permission errors. The account is a domain admin account.
We have tried editing the settings that affected SMB scanning on Server 2003. We also have a Server 2008 Standard Edition and scanning to shares on this work as normal.
change your smb port from 139 to 445 and open the same port in the firewall

Since people are still plastering stuff up here, I will add mine. I had this happen on a 2008 that was not a domain controller, but nobody could see the share I created. I then put a scan folder into the pre-fabbed "Public" folder, and the copier and users connected to it there. I normally use the root folder of the drive.

That is because the Advanced Sharing wasn't setup correctly. Once Advanced Sharing is set correctly, you can then put shares anywhere you like instead of needing to put them in the Public Share which Vista and onwards Windows Operating Systems now use as default.
