    Typical SMB and email stoppers

Hi all, I've got a new KM C353 in a government facility. (The servers are 1000 miles away and information and detail requests fall on deaf ears) SMB scanning fails with server connect errors, emails never go through. Print jobs are ofcourse successful. I haven't made a packet capture yet (mind was foggy with flu last visit) But I wanted to ask what security measures would block these protocols? I had the mac address registered with the router. I can't even hit the Yahoo.com mail server. I'm told no authentication is needed for a yahoo connect yet I had a similar customer had some security protocol that their older Ricoh didn't use (and was successful) but a newer KM did (and wasn't successfull) and we changed the order of sequence for checking. I've forgotten what was resequenced. It was done on the mail server. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

They may have smb turned off or have the ports associated with smb blocked.. Been there done that. They may or may not open them but it is easier to get congress to agree on something unanimously...
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

Just as a test to make sure you don't have a DNS issue, try pinging Yahoo's or Google's IP address rather than their DNS name from the copier.

If you get a response then, you will know that you are having issues with the DNS on the machine.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

Copier does ping yahoo mail. I wasn't aware you could cut off SMB protocol on the switch or network. I'll have to check on that. Thanks for your input.

Since your dealing with a WAN, don't forget about firewalls.

Also, make sure your gateway address is correct. Remember, the gateway connects to two networks LANS to make a WAN.

One other thing, check and see if they are using WINS. You can check this by performing IP config on a client PC. If they are, then program that info into your MFP. I'm sure it supports it. You can get the IP addresses from IPCONFIG, but to get scope and stuff like that, you will have to go into the Connection Properties under network connections.
