    KM scan to email problem

    I need your help guys.

I'm having trouble in setting up the scan to email function of a Konica Minolta Bizhub 200 for a company. I already tried a lot of variations for the settings but still having some transmission errors. Here's the setting. The company's ISP is IT&E but their email account is on another ISP which is named MCV.

I got the following information from both ISP:

    IT&E:
    smtp server: smtp.ite.net
    pop3 server: mail.ite.net
    DNS addresses: 202.123.137.2, 202.123.137.56
    username@ite.net
    password

    MCV:
    smtp server: smtp.guam.net
    pop3 server: mail.guam.net
    DNS addresses: 202.128.27.2, 202.128.28.2
    username@guam.net
    password

    My current settings:

    DNS: (from IT&E) 202.123.137.2, 202.123.137.56
    SMTP: (from IT&E) smtp.ite.net
    SMTP authentication: username@ite.net, password
    POP3: (from MCV) mail.guam.net
    POP3 authentication: username@guam.net, password

I called both ISP and they said that their SMTP doesnt require any authentication so I also tried removing both usernames and passwords but still, it doesnt work.

I am getting error codes about transmission settings. (EA****)

Im sure its not a machine problem because i tried it on another machine.

I am thinking if i still need to use the other ISP's (MCV) information or just focus on the company's ISP which is IT&E because its just the smtp server address that is important. Am I right?

Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance and Godbless.

    Outlook

You will need to use the SMTP service for whoever hosts their mail accounts/domain. MCV in this case. As simple way to get some useful information in these situations is to check the account settings on someone's mail client (thunderbird/outlook ect) This should have the outbound smtp settings as well as the ports (if they don't use the standard ones.)

I do run into situations where the customer is using a 3rd party to host their email and I need to use the customer's ISP SMTP settings(not the email host's) to configure scan to email. All ISPs are different. Most have residential and commercial/business accounts. Most of these commercial/business accounts don't have any email setup for them by default(unlike residential accounts). You will not know this is the case until you spend time on the phone with the ISP.

You can try using gawab.com for scan to email. I've posted about it before here: http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/co...html#post96570

I've used gawab.com before and it works like a charm.

      Good luck!

check the sender email address is valid. We once had a customer which had input all the correct mail settings but failed to enter a vaild sender address, something like this:

        jim.blogs.com

        when corrected this worked.

It is also always worth verifying their claim that authenication is not needed via TELNETing port 80 on the server.

Can you explain why port 80 for testing SMTP Authentication, Colonicaminota??

Colonicaminota reminded me of something. Change the reply or From address on the MFP to that of an actual, valid email address that the customer uses(preferably theirs).

First.... get your laptop and setup an email account in outlook that works... say your own personal email account... now you know this account works... got it... now take those settings and put on the copier...

most copiers are only going to send email... so focus on smtp values... login and password... get that to work... if it helps... look at copier as one great big outlook account that will not recieve but only send email...

once you get your personal email in there and it works...
try sending something... it should work...j

things that can cause problems... not having the smtp port number.... and networks that recognize only IP addresses for smtp server and not host name... say a server like smtp.aim.com but your network only sees the ip address equivalent... it balls out when you try to setup the hostname so you have to enter 192.168.1.255 or something like that... as for ports... if you can get your outlook settings working right then you will know what port to use... it will be in the advanced user settings...

now that you know the copier is working...

go back to outlook and setup the account given by the client.... create a test email in outlook and send it...

you now know the email account works...

next step is to run ipconfig /all in command prompt... that should give you all the various values for the network....

Now input everything that you need...

remember use an email account that you are familiar with to set everything up and then use the one given to you... if they say no authentication... then that means no logins or passwords for smtp...

            good luck

Thanks for all the reply. I appreciate it.

I'll try everything you suggested and inform you about the outcome.

About the port number?Ive read somewhere in this forum that sometimes, you need to use port 80 for smtp? is that true?

I'm also planning to bypass their router first and connect directly to the ISP's cable modem to verify all the information. From there, I'll try to send an e-mail using a simulator program (SMTP mailer) which I've downloaded from the other thread in this forum. When I got it to work, I'll apply it to the copier.

Hopefully I can make it work this time.

Be sure to put in an Administrator email in. It won't work until you do so.
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

                        Question...

Are you using any account track/user authentication on this machine?

if so you must enter the email address into the AT/UA registration field.

the copier ignores the machine's/administrator email address but uses the individual login email address, when you are using AT/UA.

if you turn AT/UA off AND you have checked the settings recommended by the other replies to your query, you will most likely find it works straight away.

All you need is love - and the right unathenticated exchange IP address, and an email address for the copier. viola!

Does the BizHub 200 have a parameter to change the port number for SMTP? A lot of times ISPs will run their mail services on non standard ports to avoid spammers using their relays. If this is the case and you can't change the port you may be SOL. You could set up a SendMail server on the network strictly to relay copier mail.
