Yes for most Copier companies I would agree but we have a full
IT department and we are most of our customers
IT department but for this customer that I am meeting with
they do have their own IT so I am hoping that we can get away
with a central storage as I agree that I do not really want to invest
a lot of money just for a few customers! Thanks for the reply!

      Hi,

How about trying open source DMS (Like knowledge Tree, Alfresco, etc.) they have similiar features compare to the DMS(price varies from a few hundred dollars for single desktop application to Hundred of thousands for a ECM ) sold be copier companies. Features like security, checkin check out , version control etc. The open soure version is free but there are also a enterpise version which you need to pay a subcription fee.

ECopy is not a Document Management system. There are many document delivery systems out there that give the ability to route and rename documents but a true document management system works on indexing data. ECopy has connectors to many popular DM systems. Most document delivery systems still require a good deal of work to retrieve documents. A true DM system has much faster retrieval and can easily pay for itself with the benefits to the end user. Also, if you are looking for a DM system it is a good idea to look at one that has workflow capabilities. My primary function is selling DM solutions and I have noticed a sharp increase in the call for a good workflow solution. Some of these solutions are quite easy for the end user to create workflows but some require developer skills. Fully check out any DM solution you are going to support and also be sure to look at the compatability of software and MFP to bring documents into the system.

We use Kyocapture with Sentryfile and Inforouter

We use Inforouter (www.inforouter.com) for most of our doc. Management. It integrates very easy with kyocapture. It uses a library and folder structure with a database backbone. It is a very good program and if you want to change or enhance it, you can get a hold of the developer it get something changed. We also use Sentryfile for an entry level system.
