    Gimp-Print Drivers in Mac OS

    Hi!

Has anyone tried any of the Gimp-Print drivers on a Mac OS yet?...and lived to tell about it?

Every so often, we'll get a customer who adds a Mac to the mix well after they buy the MFP, or worse, the Mac never comes up during the sale.

Most all of our machines don't come with PostScript, and it's a fairly pricey option.

At least on Canon machines, you can use the UFRII drivers for Mac, but not so on Ricoh and other brands that we carry.

I'm VERY hesitant to even suggest something that we can't support, but it may help with some very, shall we say "sticky" situations.

    Thankz!

I have used them before without any issues, 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6 on my own iMac. Your right about the inability to fully support the solution, but I usually just point them in the direction and ultimately let them decide. If the customer insists on full Ricoh support then the only solution is PS3 and the cosots it incurs. Most Mac users seem to be reasonably savvy and can make thier own decision in this regard.

If they squeal beyond that, then they should have informed us of any 'special' requirements. The drivers work well in Linux too.

      Thanks for responding.

The other thing that I actually may be more afraid of is our own sales department.

Once word gets out that "Hey, we can come in x dollars less with Macs!", the Gimp Print "option" would become the new normal.

Quite frankly, I really don't care if we make $10 or $100 off a PostScript card; I just don't want to support headache. One or two (OK, maybe three) would be OK, but I just don't want it on every deal.

As Apple's market share increases, it seems that we keep seeing more and more of them, and quite a few of them are installed in accounts whose users are basically computer illiterate.
