smtp server domain name resolution question

    I have a laptop, a router, dsl and a km 4035...

the laptop has outlook and resolves pop and smtp servers with their host names...

the copier does not resolve to host name when doing scan to smtp

smtp only works with the ip address

is there any way to get the copier to resolve to the host name for the smtp server....

i was thinking that using google public dns might work... ?

am I following the right trend of thoughts???

That may work but if it is an exchange server inside the company then the only way I have found to get reliable emails is the ip address.
And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!

      That brings an interesting question

Is there any way to add a host name slash ip relationship to the dns where on a server or router or even via a hosted webservice... either on a website or a web service specifically designed for that task...???

If you can input a dns ip address then try googles and that might help. The dns server that google uses is 8.8.8.8

Is there no entries on the copier to allow for DNS entries? Generally, I always program in the DNS entries I get from the dos prompt "ipconfig /all", and also enter the primary domain name of the server/router being used within the network. WORKGROUP is pretty common on small networks that use routers, but this sometimes can conflict if the internet switch uses a different domain entry. COMPANYNAME.LOCAL is typical of what I see if it is used. Depending on the machine and/or controller type, I enter in 2 DNS entries and usually the gateway address as the third if available. Beware windows 7 will not resolve the DNS entries, will only provide the DNS itself without resolving the IP addresses fully.

Stirton is on the right track here.

Try entering in the local DNS server as the first in the copier and then use something like DYNDNS for the second DNS entry. On most small networks (without a server based OS as such) you will find that the modem / router is going to be the DNS server.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.
