Aficio 3235c mac printing... need Postcript option?

Hi all, just wanted to confirm this before making a purchase!

We've just put a 3235c refurb into a local school that want to print to it from some mac's as well as the pc's we've already set up.

Are we going to need to install the PS3 option to make this work or is there another way of getting the mac's to print.

If not, has anyone got a spare PS3 option they want to sell?

    Cheers

    Simon

Yes, you must purchase the PS3 option to print from Macs.

There are some folks who have tried the GIMP drivers (which use PCL), but this solution is neither recommended or supported. All bets would be off if you went down that road.

Yes unsupported, but I've found the Gutenprint package (an updated version of GIMP print) to be quite useful in an environment that has only a small number of Macs. Generally we only find out about the Macs during the install .

Even the Gutenprint package doesn't include drivers for all machines.

I checked a few months ago for the MP C2050 / 2550, but no banana.

Of course, the installs we've had that the Macs were later magically "discovered", were all MP C2050s.

There are other packages from OpenPrinting that cover a wider range of Ricoh products. Gutenprint just happens to be an easy single package. The alternative packages allow the use of the device specific PPD, so any device could be supported.

Foomatic, GhostScript and PPD combined are the alternative to Gutenprint (GIP Print).
