how to share a printer over the internet

I have a customer who wants to log into his work printer from home and print a document. Is there anyway to do that without using a commercial solution?
Can IPP Printing take care of that?
How do you handle the issue of domain name resolution?
He doesn't want to print over a large network...
He wants to remotely log in and print or connect to the printer from an ip address that is a web address and print...
    Is this possible?

IPP printing will work, just make sure you set it up properly so he doesn't receive unwanted printjobs.

Maybe suggest a VPN? I suspect he'll want to do more with his network in the future.

Some machines can be configured to print via email. You configure the device with the POP3 settings, create a POP3 user acount for the printer to use and send your print jobs to that address as an email attachment (usually this will only work with PDF attachments, but some printers can handle Word documents, JPEGs, etc...).

Most Konica Minolta hardware is capable of accessing an email address and printing the contents. It is extremely rare that anyone would use this, but it is available.

Nice one! You almost fooled me into believing this wasn't just a shameless publicity post.

All these ideas I have tried and have worked well and there is only one other method that I could think of. You could set the printer up for LPD and forward port 515 from your router (assuming you have a static IP or DDNS) and simply set the PC up to print to the external address of his work network. I set this up at my house after reading this post and started printing a bunch of pictures for my wife on our HP 2550n while she was at home and I was at work. She called me and thought the printer was malfunctioning.
