    Equitrac on Linux?

    Hello there, boys and girls!

Simple question: Can Equitrac server run on Linux? Or is Windows still a mandatory requirement?

    Cheers!

    Run...

I haven't seen Equitrac on a Linux box, but there are several others that are available. I installed one on a test box and after crashing the box several times, I found another one called Paper Cut that seems to work just fine.

Thanks, Johny. I know PaperCut and yes, it runs fine on Linux. But I need Equitrac specifically for this.

have you tried running the Windows installer on a Linux box with Wine installed? Wine won't allow all Windows apps to run but it may work. You'll have to give a try. What flavour / version of Linux if I may ask?

The print server can be linux based but im pretty sure the actual CAS has to be on a windows box

If you know the software and what library files it uses you should be able to get it to function with wine or crossover. I'm sure it will take a lot of configuring. Another method would be to install windows on a virtual box and run it that way. This of course is assuming you have that kind of processing power and that the purpose of this is to reduce the amount of hardware involved. The problem is that you still need to own a MS Windows license and it's by no means efficient or cost effective.

I know, thanks for the feedback. But I needed to know if Equitrac could run entirely on Linux, which isn't the case, since most server components require Windows.

Thank you all for your feedback!

With our Professional Version of software (Equitrac Professional 5) we require key windows components in order to run the main server software (CAS). The database we use is SQL 2005/Express 2008/Express. We also require IIS and ASP.Net.

Have you asked Equitrac? Their website leads me to believe that it does work on Linux. Have you asked them for a linux .rpm? Or if they even run 'apt-get' or 'yum' repositories.

If you can run it on a Unix server. Why not throw NetBSD or OpenBSD at a server and install it there? Either way. Stop ducking around with usless and obselete OS's
